Overview: 18 new Apple Intelligence shortcuts

Shortcuts have always been powerful, but let's be honest—they haven't exactly been "smart." They followed strict rules. If A happens, do B. But with the release of Apple Intelligence and the new ChatGPT integrations in iOS 18.2, that changes completely.

I've spent the last few weeks rebuilding my automation library to take advantage of these new AI tools. The result is a collection of 18 new and updated shortcuts that don't just move data around—they understand context, summarize content, and actually generate things for you. From automatic packing lists to smarter birthday texts, these are designed to handle the heavy lifting.

Let's walk through the standout shortcuts in this collection, how to set them up, and how they actually work on your device.

Before you dive in

Most of these shortcuts rely on the new Apple Intelligence features found in iOS 18.1 and the ChatGPT integration in 18.2. You'll need a compatible iPhone (15 Pro or later) or iPad with an M-series chip to run the AI-heavy ones.

  1. Ensure you are running the latest iOS beta or public release that supports Apple Intelligence
  2. Download the Actions app from the App Store. It adds essential actions (like finding playlists) that Apple doesn't include by default
  3. Install the official ChatGPT app and ensure you're signed in to use the advanced text parsing features
  4. Download the shortcuts you want from the links provided in the video description or my community page

Pro tip: For the "Scan Documents" shortcuts, you'll also want to grab Toolbox Pro. It handles the scanning interface better than the native Shortcuts action does right now.

The "Remember This" shortcut

This is a step up from your standard "Save for Later" bookmark. Sometimes you see something on a screen—a shirt, a social post, a weird error message—and the link isn't enough. You need the visual context.

This shortcut takes a screenshot, uses AI to analyze what's on the screen, and saves it all to a structured Apple Note.

How it works

  1. Add Remember This to your Control Center for quick access
  2. When you see something interesting, swipe down and tap the shortcut
  3. The shortcut automatically takes a screenshot and grabs any text from the screen
  4. Apple Intelligence analyzes the image to create a title and summary
  5. It saves everything to a specific notes folder (I use "Things to Remember") with the screenshot and source link attached

When it's done, you have a searchable note with the image, the context of why you saved it, and a direct link back to the source.

Smarter birthday texts

Nobody likes sending the same generic "Happy Birthday!" text year after year. I built two versions of this. The simple one just finds contacts with birthdays today. The advanced one is where the magic happens.

The AI version actually checks a log of what you sent that person last year to ensure you never repeat yourself. It generates a fresh, unique message every time.

Setting up the log

This one requires a tiny bit of prep work to function correctly:

  1. Create a new note in Apple Notes titled exactly Birthday Texts
  2. Run the shortcut. It scans your contacts for birthdays matching today's date
  3. Select the person you want to text
  4. The AI reads your Birthday Texts note to see what you said previously
  5. It drafts a new message, sends it, and logs the new message back to that note for next year

Packing List AI

This was a request from the community. Instead of a static packing list, this shortcut uses Apple Intelligence to generate a custom list based on your specific trip.

It asks you where you're going, how long you'll be there, what activities you're doing (like scuba diving), and what luggage you're bringing. Then, it creates a tailored Reminders list for you.

Documentation image

Give it a spin

  1. Run Packing List AI
  2. Answer the prompts: Destination (e.g., Hawaii), Duration (e.g., 7 days), and Activities
  3. Choose your luggage type (Suitcase, Backpack, or Both)
  4. The shortcut generates items, categorizes them, adds checkboxes, and opens the new list in Reminders

Transcribe & summarize podcasts

This is probably the most streamlined version of a podcast transcriber I've built. Apple improved the transcribe action on iPhone and iPad, so this is much more reliable now.

It pulls the latest episode from an RSS feed, transcribes the audio, and uses ChatGPT to generate a summary, key points, and a full text dump into Apple Notes.

Documentation image

How to customize it

  1. Open the shortcut editor and locate the Menu list
  2. Change the names to your favorite podcasts
  3. Scroll down to the text blocks matching each menu item
  4. Paste the direct RSS feed URL for each show into the text field
  5. Run it to get a beautifully formatted summary note of the latest episode

Pro tip: If you run into memory limits on older iPhones, try running this one on an iPad or Mac. It works nearly 100% of the time on macOS.

Amazon Price Checker

With the holiday season coming up, I wanted a quick way to check price history without loading a bunch of tabs. This shortcut scrapes CamelCamelCamel for multiple products at once and gives you a clean list of current prices.

Documentation image

Using it

  1. Grab the CamelCamelCamel product URL for items you want to watch
  2. Paste them into the text block at the top of the shortcut
  3. When you run it, you'll see a menu with the product names and current prices
  4. Tap any item to jump straight to the Amazon page

A few more highlights

There are 18 shortcuts total in this drop. Here are a few other quick wins worth checking out:

  • Mark Parked Car: Logs your location instantly, or retrieves it with walking directions. Can even run automatically when CarPlay disconnects
  • Text Convo Reminders: Takes a screenshot of a text, grabs the contact info, and sets a reminder to reply later with a link back to the thread
  • Play Latest Playlist: Uses the Actions app to find your most recently created playlist and start shuffling it immediately
  • Scan Invoices: Scans a document or PDF, parses the vendor/cost/date, and logs it to a Numbers spreadsheet
  • Dictate Journal: Speak your thoughts, and let AI format them into bullet points with a nice title before saving to the Journal app
  • Air Quality Warning: Checks the AQI forecast for your area and notifies you if it's going to be unhealthy today

Start playing

These shortcuts are all available to download now. Whether you're trying to organize your next trip, keep track of your spending, or just remember to text your friends on their birthday, there's something here for everyone.

Grab the ones you need, open them up to see how they're built, and don't be afraid to tweak them to fit your own workflow. That's the best part about Shortcuts—they're just the starting point.
