Deep dive into Battery management features

This update introduces new battery management features for your AirPods Pro, giving you more control over how they charge. With Optimized Charge Limit and Charging Notifications, you can extend the lifespan of your battery and get helpful reminders to ensure your AirPods are always ready when you need them.

What's new

We've added a dedicated Battery section in your AirPods settings, which includes two new key features. The first is Optimized Charge Limit, a smart feature that helps reduce battery aging by learning your daily usage and limiting the charge to 80% until you need it. The second is Charging Notifications, which sends you an alert when your AirPods or their case have a low battery, so you never forget to charge them.

How to use this feature

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone while your AirPods are connected.
  2. Tap on your AirPods' name at the top of the settings menu.
  3. Scroll down and select the new Battery section.
  4. From this screen, you can toggle Optimized Charge Limit and Charging Notifications on or off.

Key capabilities

  • Extend Battery Lifespan: The Optimized Charge Limit feature helps preserve your battery's health by preventing it from sitting at a 100% charge for extended periods. It intelligently holds the charge at 80% and then completes charging before you typically start using them.
  • Override for a Full Charge: If you need a full 100% charge for a long day or a trip, you can easily override the 80% limit. Simply tap the Charge to Full Now button on the battery pop-up, or temporarily disable the feature in settings.
  • Stay Informed with Notifications: Enable Charging Notifications to receive alerts on your iPhone when either your AirPods or the charging case battery is low. This helps you remember to charge them before you run out of power.

Tips for getting the most out of this feature

If you are preparing for travel and want to ensure your AirPods are fully charged, you don't need to permanently disable optimized charging. When you go into the Battery settings, you can select Turn Off Until Tomorrow. This gives you a full charge for your trip while allowing the battery-saving feature to resume automatically the next day.

Summary

The new battery management features provide intelligent tools to improve the long-term health and daily convenience of your AirPods Pro. By using Optimized Charge Limit, you can reduce battery aging, and with Charging Notifications, you'll always know when it's time to power up. These settings give you greater control and peace of mind over your device's battery performance.
