iOS 27 Messages: How to Use AI for Smart Reminders, Calendar Events, and Photo Search
Apple has packed some impressive artificial intelligence into iOS 27. The Messages app got a massive upgrade this time around. Your iPhone can now intelligently pull events, tasks, and even photo recommendations right out of your conversations. Let's take a look at the smartest new features coming to your chats.
Turn chat plans into calendar events
If someone texts you about meeting up, you no longer have to leave the app to schedule it. iOS 27 intelligently reads the context and gives you a handy shortcut to create an event.
Here's how it works
- Open a message containing plans, like "Let's meet for lunch at El Puerto at 12pm today".
- Tap the new Add to Calendar button right underneath the message bubble.
- The app automatically gathers the details and predicts the location for you.
- Tap Add to drop the event straight into your schedule.
Send requests straight to your reminders
When you get a text asking you to do something, Messages now recognizes it as a task. You can turn messages into actionable to-dos with just one tap.
Give it a spin
- Find a message with a request, like "Also can you get milk and eggs on the way home?".
- Look for the Add to Reminders and Add to Notes buttons below the text.
- Tap Add to Reminders.
- The app places the message text directly into the reminder title so you're alerted later.
Let your keyboard find the right photos
Finding a specific photo someone asked for is usually a hassle. Now, Messages anticipates when you need to send a picture and gives you a massive head start.
Here's how to try it
- Receive a text asking for a picture, like "Can you send that photo of you wearing glasses?".
- Look for the Search for photos... button appearing just above your keyboard.
- Tap the button. Your phone will quickly filter your photo library for that exact image.
- Select the photo and send it off.
- Draw and send sketches: You can now send hand-drawn sketches to friends. Just scroll down in the apps menu, select Drawing, sketch your message, and hit send.
- Customize your text field: You might notice the voice message microphone is missing from the compose window. You can easily toggle it back or swap it out. Head to Settings > Messages > Show in Text Field and choose between None, Start Dictation, or Record Audio.
- Quick paste prompt: When you tap into the chat box to type, iOS 27 displays your most recently copied item right above the keyboard. You can paste links or text with a single tap.
That's a wrap
These new AI-powered features in iOS 27 make Messages feel more like a personal assistant than just a texting app. Whether you're scheduling lunches or digging up old photos, your chats are about to get a whole lot smarter. Go ahead and give these a spin next time you're texting.
