We've all taken that almost-perfect photo. Maybe you cropped out a little too much of the background, or your subject is standing in an awkward spot. With iOS 27, Apple is introducing some powerful AI photo editing tools that make fixing these issues incredibly simple. If you want to rescue your shots, this guide will walk you through the new Extend and Reframe features.
Have you ever needed a bit more headroom in a portrait? Or maybe you just need some empty space to drop text for a poster. The new Extend feature uses Apple's visual intelligence to generate missing background content around your subjects.

Give it a few moments. Your iPhone will analyze the scene and seamlessly fill in the new edges. It will even give people a little more arm or shoulder if it makes the wider framing look natural.
Sometimes you have enough background, but your subject is just standing in the wrong spot. The Reframe tool actually lets you pick up a person and move them across the image.

This tool is wild in practice. If your subject was previously blocking a plant or a wall, the AI steps in and completely recreates that blocked background once the person is moved out of the way.
These AI tools are built right into the native photo editor, bringing advanced retouching directly to your phone. Grab a poorly framed photo from your camera roll, give the new tools a spin, and see what you can create.
